Choose your registration pathway

 
There are four possible pathways to becoming a registered social worker in Aotearoa New Zealand. You can check our eligibility tool here. Choose the one most suitable for you.

I am applying based on my SWRB-recognised New Zealand social work qualification. View historic and current approved qualifications list here.

You will need to provide confirmation of your degree, either a certificate from your institution and date of conferral OR your official academic transcript which shows you have completed your degree and are eligible to graduate.

I am applying based on my social work experience.

If you have a lot of practical social work experience in New Zealand, but don't have an SWRB-recognised social work qualification, this may be your pathway.

We want you to know we value your experience, networks, and contribution to the lives of those you work with. We will want to understand how you see yourself as a social worker and hear from your colleagues, including registered social workers. 

This pathway has now closed. You will not be able to apply or continue your application.

I am applying based on my Australian social work qualification, recognised by the AASW - Australian Association of Social Workers.

You will need to provide confirmation of your qualification, either a certificate from the institution and date of conferral OR your official academic transcript which shows you have completed your degree.

I have an overseas social work qualification.

Your qualification will need to be assessed by the NZ Social Workers Registration Board and there will also be a competence assessment form you will need to complete.

Please check that you can provide confirmation of qualifications, certificate showing the name of the institution, and date of conferral or your official academic transcript which shows you have completed your degree.
